Finding Strength in Knowing Our Father

Finding Strength in Knowing Our Father

“No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.” (John 1:18)

In the gospel of John, we can read that Jesus came to reveal God as a Father to us. Jesus spoke more than 100 times of His Father in the gospel of John. It was Jesus’ greatest desire to show the Father to us through His words and His actions during His life on earth. Jesus says that if we have seen Him, we have seen the Father (John 14:9), and He also calls Himself the way to the Father (John 14:6).

During His time on earth, Jesus walked in a complete dependency upon His Father (John 5:19). We can see that the inspiration and strength of Jesus came forth out of His relationship with His Father. Also, for us, strength and inspiration come forth out of our relationship with the Father.

As we grow in our understanding of the love and the faithfulness of God the Father, we are able to find a strong security in Him. In the Psalms, we can see what an amazing strength and security David found in God. “Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.” (Psalm 27:3) We have to realize that David really experienced this situation and that he truly found this strength and security in God. I believe this was not his own strength but a strength which came forth out of his personal walk with the Lord.

How much more are we now able to find strength and security in God now Jesus has revealed God as our Heavenly Father. We can also trust in the faithfulness of God when He calls us to take steps of faith in our journey of life. In John 10 we can see that God is the God who goes before us, “When He has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and His sheep follow Him because they know His voice.” (John 10:4)

We can see that if God calls us to take a new step in life that He first goes ahead of us to prepare a place for us. What a great Father we have and what a great promise that He goes before us in life! Experiencing God calling us to take a step and seeing how He has prepared the way for us is one of the most wonderful things to experience in life.

A deep knowledge of the love and the faithfulness of the Father will result in strength and will give us the courage to take steps of faith in life. It is my prayer that God will give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation so that we may grow and know Him better (Ephesians 1:17).

“Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” (John 17:3)
