Gloves

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40)

He huddled by an icy wall,
Lost and alone, no one to call.
In frigid wind a thousand feet
Rushed by him on the city street.

One college student, late to class
Approached the corner where he gasped.
Touched by the Spirit did she see
His frozen hands, his shivering.

She gave her gloves, soft, dry and warm,
To shield his hands against the storm.
Continued on to school she walked,
A taxi driver stopped and called,

“You gave your gloves to him back there?
Get in! I’ll drive you anywhere!”
Their friendship on this ride began -
Pious Christian - strict Muslim man.

His wife, family, friends, others
Filled her heart with love for Muslims.
Ventured to war-torn Middle East,
She ministered Christ’s love and peace.

Her family, friends, colleagues, too,
Inspired likewise to go and do
In Asia, Europe, far and wide
As workers in great harvest plied.

And so the Kingdom spreads worldwide,
Contagion by the Spirit’s guide,
As through her selfless sacrifice
She warmed the hands of Jesus Christ.
